Cracked Shop Slab To Charcoal Flake

Drain Surround, Cut Clean
Sound Familiar?
The Eight Things Wrong With Most Garage Floors
Paint or a DIY kit that is letting go
Old floors often carry layers of paint or a DIY epoxy kit that never bonded. We grind it all off and bond into bare, open concrete.
Oil that soaked in years ago
Bare concrete drinks oil. A sealed polyaspartic surface does not, so drips wipe up instead of soaking in.
Cracked edges and spalled corners
Cut out, filled and ground flat before coating. Never coated over.
Black rings where the tires park
Those sticky black marks where the tires sit. Polyurea resists heat transfer and stays bonded.
Dust on everything you own
Uncoated concrete sheds dust forever. A coated floor stops it at the source.
Faded where the door lets the sun in
Epoxy yellows in UV. The polyaspartic topcoat is UV stable and holds its color.
Slick when the car drips
Full chip broadcast gives the surface texture, and we can add more grip where a floor gets hosed.
Salt and de-icer off the truck
Winter road salt drips onto the floor and pits bare concrete. Sealed concrete shrugs it off.
What Goes Down
The Four-Layer System
Layer 4: Polyaspartic Topcoat
The wear surface. UV stable so it will not yellow the way epoxy does under an open door, and chemically resistant to the road salt, oil and fuel that come off a vehicle all winter.
Layer 3: Chip Flake Broadcast
Vinyl chip broadcast to full refusal while the basecoat is wet, then scraped and vacuumed. This is the colour, the texture underfoot, and the grip when wet.
Layer 2: Polyurea Basecoat
Penetrates and bonds into the open pores of the ground slab. Flexible enough to move with the concrete through Oregon’s freeze and thaw instead of cracking away from it.
Layer 1: Prepared Concrete
Diamond ground to open the surface profile, with cracks and spalls cut out and repaired. The part nobody sees and the only reason the other three layers stay put.

Install Day
Grind, Repair, Coat, Done
01. Grind & Repair
Diamond grind to open concrete. Cut out and fill cracks and spalls, re-grind flat, vacuum dust-free.
02. Polyurea Basecoat
Rolled wet and even, worked into the pores, edges and terminations done by hand.
03. Full Flake Broadcast
Chip thrown to refusal into the wet base, then scraped and vacuumed once cured.
04. Polyaspartic Topcoat
Flooded over the flake to lock it down. Walk on it within 24 hours; vehicles after 48 to 72.
Epoxy Vs. This
Why We Don't Install Epoxy
| What matters | Polyurea + polyaspartic (what we install) | Professional epoxy | DIY epoxy kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| UV exposure (open garage door, patio) | Stays clear. Will not yellow. | Yellows and chalks within a couple of seasons. | Yellows fast; thin film. |
| Freeze and thaw movement | Flexible; moves with the slab. | Rigid; cracks and delaminates as the slab moves. | Rigid and thin; lifts at the first crack. |
| Cure and return to service | Walk within 24 hours, vehicles after 48 to 72. | Often a week or more before vehicles. | Days, but the film stays soft. |
| Hot tire pickup | Resists heat transfer; stays bonded. | Softens under hot tires and lifts. | Peels where the tires sit, usually year one. |
| Salt, oil and fuel | Non-porous once cured; wipes clean. | Stains and etches unless re-sealed. | Stains; water-based film soaks. |
| Surface prep | Diamond grind, crack and spall repair. | Grind when done properly. | Acid etch; nothing to bond into. |
Eight Blends
Pick Your Blend

Willamette Slate
Charcoal base with black, gunmetal and silver chip. The default for garages and shops, and the easiest color to keep looking clean.

Cascade Ash
Mid-grey base with a dense white, grey and black blend. Hides dust and tire marks better than anything else we lay.

Siuslaw Sand
Warm sand base with cream, tan and soft brown. The one most people choose for front walks and entries.

Newport Fog
Pale dove grey with white and a hint of cool blue. Opens up a dark basement or a north-facing garage.

Coos Bay Tide
Blue-grey base with ocean blue, steel and white. Our most-requested blend on the coast.

Douglas Fir
Warm brown with chocolate, tan and burnt copper. Sits naturally against cedar, brick and stone.

Obsidian
Near-black base with a sparse bright silver flake. The most dramatic floor we offer.

Silver Falls
Bright silver-grey with white and platinum. Throws the most light back into a room of any blend we carry.

Straight Answers
Garage Floor Questions
How long does the install take?
One working day on site for a standard two-car garage. Larger or badly damaged slabs can take two, and we tell you that at the quote, not on the day.
When can I drive on it?
Foot traffic within 24 hours, vehicles after 48 to 72.
Can you coat over my painted floor?
We remove it first. Coatings have to bond to bare concrete or they will not last, so the grind takes the paint off along with the top layer of the slab.
Does it smell?
A little while the topcoat goes down, and it has cleared by the next morning. Once cured there is no smell at all.
Can you do the stem walls and steps too?
Yes. Stem walls, the step up into the house and the side pads are coated in the same visit, so there is no bare edge left to collect dirt and the whole garage reads as one surface.
Is this better than epoxy?
In every way that matters in Oregon: it does not yellow, it flexes with freeze and thaw instead of cracking, and it is back in service in days rather than a week or more.
